1995 was a tough year for Sokhean. First, her husband passed away and she was left alone to support their five young boys. Then, she stepped on a landmine. True to her fighter spirit, Sokhean drew on her strength and amazing resilience and asked a friend to teach her to dye and weave palm leaves so that she could earn an income to provide for her family. For many years she’s been selling her wares to the vendors at Angkor Wat for a small percentage of what they are actually sold for.
At Genevieve’s Fair Trade Village, it is our goal to provide artisans like Sokhean an opportunity to sell their wares at a fair price so that they may lead better, happier and more enriched lives.
